Chanuka in the Gorsky-Kavkazi
Jewish Center
Every year on the 5th night
of Chanuka, the Gorsky-Kavkazi Jewish Center in Brooklyn organizes a
special Chanuka celebration, commemorating the miracle of Chanuka. This
year was no different.
The event attended by over
50 people of different ages and backgrounds joined together on Saturday,
December 9 in the cozy space at the back of our community synagogue on
Ocean Parkway and Avenue C.
The evening began with the
lighting of the Chanuka candelabra, the 5th candle on the menorah. As the
light filled the room with warm air, hanging garlands and décor made the
room cozy on the milieu of holy books lining the walls. Boys and girls of
all ages sat at round tables, competing in fun and interactive games, part
of the intellectual café program prepared specifically for Chanuka every
year. Other activities included, amusing apple biting contests and
intriguing Juhuro trivia.
Jelly donuts, the
traditional food commemorating the miracle of the oil flask that was found
in the Temple, snacks and fruits were part of the festivities. Friends
reunited, laughter and fun- that was truly a miracle of Chanuka.
